Advent’s calling is about beating the world to celebrations of “Happy New Year” and reorienting ourselves into the world order of the kingdom of God.
Following the Star, an Advent devotional series, returns to Passport, Inc.’s, devotional website d365.org on Sunday, Dec. 2, through Epiphany, Jan. 6, 2013.
Watchful Christians are needed in a world that no longer feels a sense of urgency about anything spiritual.
When observed faithfully and progressively, Advent can prepare us for a Christmas celebration filled with mystical wonder and deep meaning, a spiritual communion that far exceeds the buzz of shallow commercialism.
We need Advent particularly badly this year, and not simply because it’s a prelude to Christmas.
Seeing the new Muppets movie was a stroll down memory lane. All the way to the theater I remembered weekly family events gathered around the television singing together, “It’s time to play the music! It’s time to light the lights!” Crowded on the couch, singing together, we laughed and laughed at the Swedish Chef and the singing chickens, Fozzy Bear and Miss Piggy’s latest drama.
According to the Christian calendar we are coming to the end of another year. In just a couple of short weeks we will begin a new chapter in the annual cycle. As I conclude this series, I want to take a few moments to reflect on the journey we’ve enjoyed together.
