STAFF CHANGES

Barry Keys, to Valdese (N.C.) First Baptist Church, as pastor, effective March 17. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Forest City, N.C.

Matt King, to Augusta Road Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C., as senior pastor. He previously served on the staff of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C.

Victor LaMonte Lane, to Macedonia Baptist Church, Denver, Colo., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Miles Chapel Baptist Church, Mebane, N.C.

Tom Capron, to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Lebanon, Va., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Greenfield Baptist Church, Meadowview, Va.

Aaron McNabb, to Agape Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas, as youth minister.

Ginny Richardson, to Vienna (Va.) Baptist Church, as pastor for youth and children.

Callie Harris, to First Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas, as director of communications.

Randy McCollum, resigning as associate pastor to youth at First Baptist Church, Newport News, Va., effective March 31.

Sharon Vincent, to First Baptist Church, Laurens, S.C., as interim children’s minister.

Benjy Linder, to First Baptist Church, Meridian, Miss., as student minister, effective April 27.

Deborah Barr, to the Greater Baltimore (Md.) Medical Center, as chaplain. She comes from a chaplaincy position with LifeBridge Health in Baltimore.

Nicole Shepard, now serving as chief financial officer at Brewton-Parker College, Mount Vernon, Ga. She has taught there since 2007.

Mark Newton, to Baylor University, Waco, Texas, as director for church engagement, effective March 19. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, San Marcos, Texas.

Joshua Speight, to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as ministries manager, where he will provide leadership for spiritual formation and leadership development. He had been associate coordinator of missions with the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship. 

ORDAINED

Crystal Rose Byrd, to be ordained to ministry on March 9 by First Baptist Church, Norman, Okla., where she serves as minister to children. 

DEATH

Allen E. Verhey, 68, died Feb. 26, in Durham, N.C. He taught for over 30 years in the religion department at Hope College in Highland, Mich., before finishing his career as the Robert Earl Cushman professor of Christian theology at Duke Divinity School in Durham, N.C. His work focused on the application of Christian ethics, especially in the area of medical and health practice. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Timothy; two daughters, Elisabeth “Betsy” Verhey and Kathryn Davis; and five grandchildren.

Beth Garner, 10 years, as church administrator at First Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Randy Kent, 10 years, as minister of music and senior adults at West Lynchburg Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Va.
