BGAV committees start 2014 with new chairs

Baptist General Association of Virginia president Tommy McDearis has named eight ministers as chairs of key BGAV committees.

Eight Baptist General Association of Virginia committees have new leadership, following the appointment of committee chairs by BGAV president Tommy McDearis in early January.

BGAV presidents are authorized to name committee chairs each year. McDearis was elected last November.

Appointed chairs are:

  • Norman Burns, senior associate pastor at Bon Air Baptist Church in Richmond, Va., to the committee on boards and committees;
  • Dan Carlton, pastor of Downtown Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va., to the program committee;
  • Robert Brown, pastor of Blackstone (Va.) Baptist Church, to the Christian life committee;
  • Shelton Miles, pastor of Republican Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie, Va., to the religious liberty committee;
  • Rupert Rose, associate pastor of families and administration at Monument Heights Baptist Church in Richmond, Va., to the resolutions committee;
  • Michael Jordan, pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Axton, Va., to the credentials committee;
  • Ralph Duke, pastor of Beacon Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Herndon, Va., to the tellers committee; and
  • David Peppler, associate pastor of youth and education at Graceland Baptist Church in Powhatan, Va., to the memorial committee.
