STAFF CHANGES

John Jay Alvaro, to Spring Creek Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Okla., as senior pastor.

Ramiro Dominguez, to Cape Charles (Va.) Hispanic Church, as pastor.

John Stephen Parker, to Morgans Baptist Church, Moneta, Va., as intentional interim pastor.

David Williamson, concluding his ministry as interim associate pastor for family ministry at Culpeper (Va.) Baptist Church.

Paul D. Larrimore, concluding an interim pastorate at Lael Baptist Church, Lignum, Va.

Jason Mills, to First Baptist Church, King’s Mountain, N.C., as student pastor. He comes from a similar position at First Baptist Church, Canton, N.C.

Scott Hovey, to St. John’s Baptist Church, Raleigh, N.C., as associate pastor. He comes from a similar position at Trinity Baptist Church, Durham, N.C.

Chad Brannan, to First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Va., as minister of youth and children.

Dara Ake, to Trinity Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, as youth pastor.

Kim Priddy, to First Baptist Church, Greensboro, N.C., as assistant pastor of missions.

Lisa Garvin, associate dean of the chapel and religious life at Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., named acting dean of the chapel and religious life. The post is being vacated by Susan Henry-Crowe who was named general secretary of the United Methodist Church’s General Board of Church and Society.

William Lane Craig, internationally known philosopher and theologian, joining staff of Houston Baptist University in fall of 2014. He will be on campus twice a year to teach courses primarily to graduate students studying philosophy in the School of Christian Thought.

RETIRING

Roger Gilbert, retiring as pastor of First Baptist Church, Mount Airy, N.C., where he has served since 2001.

ORDAINED

Dan Abe, ordained to ministry by Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, Fayetteville, N.C., on Feb. 2. 

DEATH

Former Bluefield (Va.) College dean of students, Dean Bowman, 42, died Jan. 23, following a three-year battle with cancer. Dean Bowman developed a business partnership with Cellular One that brought scholarship money to students at Bluefield College. He is survived by his wife, Staci Gilley Bowman; and two daughters, Maddie and Libby; and his parents, John and Emmagene Bowman.

Allan Vass, 10 years, as pastor of Little River Baptist Church, Floyd, Va.

Bill Hardee, 5 years, as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Griffin, Ga.
